well, hindu women have abandoned the sari in droves and taken up the salwar kameez. the muslim fundie gen zia of pak had instructed his countrywomen to abandon the hindu sari and wear only the muslim salwar kameez.
so the NYT and zia are of the same opinion, not surprisingly.
