My essay on the end-games of the British Raj in our country has just been published.

It is a fascinating book, scrupulously honest and dispassionate at the same time. The  British author, Walter Reid, is not a professional historian and this probably accounts for his ability to take a broad overview and not get caught in documentation and petty details. I thoroughly enjoyed going through the book and doing some background research while writing the review.

I am delighted that Reid and I agree on the short-list of villains in this tragic chapter of history - Churchill, Gandhi, Nehru, Jinnah, the Tories / the British elite, some segments in the Congress, and the Muslim landed gentry toadies of the Raj in India.
