US Democrats Call India an "Important Pacific Power"

Indians have long complained that Americans tend to view relations with Indian in transactional terms, rather than on a more solid footing of longer term commonalities. Our concerns can't be helped when the US Democratic Party manifesto suddenly begins to refer to India as an "important Pacific power":

Presumably, if China were causing trouble in North Asia near the Sea of Japan, then Americans would suddenly be referring to India as an "important North Asian power" too. It's unfortunate that the Yanks like to go from outright not even noticing that someone exists to trying to shack up with them on the first date.
