Why should anyone care about validation for Modi from the West, especially in a tabloid rag like TIME? This attitude is similar to how some Indians take a lot of pride in placing MK Gandhi's bust and statue around the world, when he was actually a major impediment to speedy independence in terms favorable to Hindus. What if the US continues to deny entrance to Modi even after he becomes PM, in contrast to how they welcome the brutal dictators of China Inc? Will we feel a collective shame, just as we are to feel a collective pride if he gets nominated by TIME?

@souixsie i agree with you in principle. but practically, i look forward to seeing NaMo to win yet another mention by TIME, and rub it into the egos of his corrupt opponents and the great department that denied him a visa.

Also, here is what Sardesai's paid media and Congress have to say about this TIME poll:

Modi is manipulating Time magazine's online survey: Congress

@slim_shady, how ironic. if modi is actually manipulating the poll, it just proves that he is influential! that is what TIME's question is about.

I had similar thoughts. I think his name happens to be there and that too near the top, so if by spending a few seconds that will help him to make it to the top 100, that will be something nice. It will be a boost to the confidence of many Hindus, especially weaker ones. And if our enemies are out to remove Modi's name, then it becomes my sacred duty to push his name to the top.

My take is that these results are not genuine but some random numbers according to the whims of TIME's staff. For generating interest, they need Hindus and will push Modi to the top during the process.

However, their hatred for him and their own biases will mean that they will not allow him to win and either say that there were more No votes for him or will weasel out and choose some neutral name or group like Anonymous. (Remember the Einstein pick for the Person of the Century?)

Think you're right Arvind. Now Modi's "No" votes have overtaken the "Yes" votes, and the no. 1 position is taken up by anonymous which did not figure anywhere a day back.

A bunch of people must have written a script to clear the cache and vote repeatedly. It is definitely no coincidence that Time left in this loophole.

NC, there is no loophole required. You just need to edit the page with whatever numbers you want. Hindus need to stop legitimizing TIME. No one except some NRIs ridden by inferiority complex buy it.

I agree with you all. I watched that poll towards the end, and the hacking group Anonymous that has manipulated it before in 2009 has done it again. The results became pretty nonsensical on the last day. So much for using an online poll to get a legitimate message out.
