deja vu all over again: another day, another tanker kills 2 kerala fishermen

mar 1st, 2012 CE

this is getting to be a habit. this time an unknown ship rammed a fishing boat at 1:30am -- the ship is a tanker, says survivors. two fishermen, xavier and justin, dead. three missing. the tanker hit and ran without stopping to help (they have learned from the italian tanker's problems).

both incidents occurred to fishing boats putting to sea from neendakara ('long beach'), a fishing port near kollam. i remember watching dolpins gambol in the waters in the estuary when as a child we used to drive over the long bridge there. both incidents occurred off the alappuzha coast. this is a bit suspicious.

why on earth are all these tankers running so close to the kerala coast, away from the normal shipping lanes?

there are several conjectures:

1. trying to avoid somali pirates
2. doing some smuggling operations
3. landing counterfeit currency
4. landing terrorists
5. other possibilities, too horrible to mention

jeez, now i am getting a little worried.

As Prof Vaidyanathan said, there might be a link between Padmanabha temple vault opening and Italian ships...

thorium mining is another possibility.
