Pak Naval Base Attacked, P3C Orion Aircraft Destroyed

In a scene reminiscent of Colombo airport in 2001, armed militants are attacking Pakistan's Mehran naval base in Karachi, destroying both of its prized P3C Orion aircraft, used by the country for maritime patrol and surveillance. They may have taken hostages.

Since Pakistan continues to refuses to dismantle the terrorists, it seems the terrorists will continue to dismantle Pakistan.

Update: Looks like the operation is now over, and Interior Minister Rehman Malik has arrived on scene to make an inspection.

The fact that terrorists were able to carry out this attack on Pak naval base actually downgrades USA's Abbottabad achievement. If terrorists could do it on a heavily guarded military establishment, it suggests Abbottabad was a lot easier than it was made out to be. It also shows that India too has the physical capability of carrying out attacks similar to Abbottabad, but the political and other consequences might not be desirable, and could include an all out war, because we are neighbours, unlike US and Pak, separated by some 12,000 km.

If this is the fate of the naval base security, I shudder to think what would happen if these guys decided to attack a nuclear establishment in pakistan.
