new film recommendation:Agora

the destruction and pillage of the library of Alexandria by 'pissful' band of 'brothers' has always fascinated me - as has the figure of Hypatia. truly - a representative of the hindu iconogrpahy of the lady embodying learning and the arts; the feminine form - a bearer of civilization.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/23/movies/23agora.html

the christist are up in arms already - suppressio veri, suggestio falsi - as always. there was no such protest when that aussie thug mad-max fellow made his movies portraying the amer-indians in bad light.

the wanton destruction of libraries at the hands of the desert cults is a haunting theme of history. I think of Nalanda of course - the greatest university of its time. the reason the desert death cults like to burn libraries is that they have none of their own. hard to get interested in books when you are out in the desert loving your camels eh....

of course this film will never see the light of day in India. Manmohan will get too many sleepless nights and our lady of bountiful will come visiting - the grim reaper of the censor board.

"Agora", "Avatar",...

The breakfast cereal brand "Kashi", the cosmetic brand "Aveda", and the list goes on...

Will the Yanks ever acknowledge the Hindu roots of these words? Yeah keep on filching from the vast Hindu civilizational ocean.

Shamless indeed, considering the fact that 2-bit professors at American Universities insist on putting their names to the most inane research work done by them.

Rajeev, this is worth a post:

If you’re looking for a snapshot of India’s hapless response to radical Islam, then look no further than Naik. Shekhar Gupta breathlessly introduced his guest last year as a “rock star of televangelism” who teaches “modern Islam” and “his own interpretation of all the faiths around the world.”

And here is Drummer Gupta's lame editorial response

Off-topic:

I happened to see a poster by some cheap local kaangress fellow 'welcoming' Rahul Gandhi and on it was a big caption:

'Tricolour is my religion - Rahul Gandhi'

Hmmm I wondered.. that is good.. but which tricolour? Indian or Italian :)

I also wondered.. if saffron is removed from tricolour.. then it becomes almost similar to paki-flag... so saffron's presence is vital for India.
