Feb 19th: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti

Thanks for the reminder from fellow InternetHindus. Today being the birthday of the great Maratha Hero, I would like to post two articles about him. The first one is his conversation with his Guru, Shri Samartha Ramdas who was believed to be Lord Hanuman's incarnation. The article appears in a great blog created by blogger Karmasura et al.

The second article is about Shivaji Maharaj's brilliant grasp of tactics & strategy when dealing with his enemies, this episode being about his encounter with Afzal Khan, thanks to blogger Kedar.

If you look at Bharatavarsha's history over the past 1000 years, there have always been the birth of great Hindu saints & warriors every 100 years or so. Goes to show Lord Krishna's promise to come down again and again to re-establish Dharma. Atleast if He doesn't come down himself, He sends other great souls to do the job!

Chhatrapati Shivaji being one of them and definitely one of the greatest warriors. I get goosebumps every time I hear or think of the Maratha War Cry, "HAR HAR MAHADEV"!

very very nice post Kapidhwaja.. kudos!

The Maratha empire along with the Vijaynagara empire were after all India's greatest protectors against foreign invaders..

atleast Shivaji is remembered in India and Maharashtra.. some of ancient India's greatest empires and emperors like the Chola dynasty is all but forgotten in India...

i really wish India had its very own "History Channel" and we Indians get to hear about our real history..

Since you mentioned our own 'history channel' - that reminds that Aastha channel... is partly doing the same thing (not exactly though).

Aastha channel was bought by Swami Ramdev, and he also started Aastha Bhajan, and is about to start Aastha Vedic.

The programs of Swami Ramdev keep reminding us about the great heros of India.

Only Aastha channel was repeating again and again wishing all on Shivaji's jayanti (I did not knew about this and came to know just because of this channel on that day)

Thanks Harish & Vikram. Good to know about Aastha channel & Baba Ramdev owning it. Hope they soon have a dedicated Aastha-History channel.
