Burkha - a fashion accessory? Yes, as per Times of India

A recent article in a City Edition of Times of India started on lines something similar to this - Burkhas may not be plain and simple. You can make a fashion statement with various designer burkhas. Then it went on to illustrate how to make burkhas fashionable.

- Contrary to popular opinion, burkhas are not meant to hide a woman's beauty, they in fact enhance feminity. With changing times, those who've embraced the burkha, have even added a dash of oomph, and traded the plain black drape for a chic style statement.

LOL. Burkhas ? Enhance feminity ? How on earth do you figure out whether the person behind the burkha is a man or a woman ?? Without removing it of course.  A black tent would be more apt a term to describe the burkha.

I guess if ghoonghats are the symbols of oppression of women in India, then how come burkhas are fashion accessories ?

PS. Personally I am not in favour of either.

I do not think this is an issue to be taken lightly. This is only another example of how pseudo-secularism operates.... "burqa enhancing feminity"...ugh!!!! Next, I will not be surprised to find a scholarly article that burqa does not restrict but enhances women's mobility and empwerment.
