High-Maintenance Musharraf - New York Times

High-Maintenance Musharraf - New York Times

The NYT waking up to the General. None of what they say is particularly a surprise. What is a surprise is the way Foggy Bottom loves to mollycoddle it's favorite Son-of-a-well-nevermind.

Reality is that even elections will not get anyone anywhere in Pakistan. Benazir Bhutto is on record as saying that she was looped out many important matters (including nuclear) by the ISI. The question is how do you dismantle the state within state that is the military-intelligence complex. The question also is how do you reverse the mindset of people who do not want to participate in the global economy - they would rather be led to barbarism

What's happening is that the Atlanticists are using their mouthpiece NYT to voice the fact that it's time to save their precious asset Pakistan from the dictator who's driving it into the ground. Now that Musharraf is working to genuinely destroy the jihadis out of fear for his own survival, the Atlanticists are upset at the prospect of their precious jihadism card being taken away. So the Atlanticists, along with their mouthpiece NYT, have then decided that it's necessary to sacrifice the now too self-preoccupied Musharraf, in order to save the more important cause of jihadism.

Carpet-Bombing with B-52 Bombers is a good idea to start with...
