The husband also rises

http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/may/29gujenc.htm
Javed Akhtar goes to bat for the Jihadi's - not that it will make the least bit of difference - Modi will likely win a THIRD term - this when every other government gets shown the door with anti-incumbency.
It seems that the case on DIG Vanzara is not going too well either - Nathubha Jadeja - the star prosecution witness recanted; and the search of soil samples near Vanzara's residence turned up blank too - due to floods last year in which incriminating evidence seems to have 'washed away' http://www.asianage.com/presentation/leftnavigation/news/top-story/gujarat-police-obstructs-probe.aspx
Asian Age sermonising on 'obstruction' can be ignored - if Afzal-huggers (or Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt) can subvert the judicial process - well - so can the cops!

OT Sonia Maino’s religion.: Editorial in today’s Statesman
http://thestatesman.net/page.news.php?clid=3&theme=&usrsess=1546131801529&id=157588 “When a right can be wrong — RTI Act And The Religious Identities Of The Gandhi Family; By Sujit Choudhury
“Mr PC Wadhwa, a retired Director-General of Police of Haryana and at present a resident of Chandigarh, had on 1 February 2006 asked the Joint Director of Census Operations and Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) of the same directorate to inform him as per provisions of the RTI Act, 2005, the entries recorded in the Census Records of 1991 and relating to the religious identities of Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. He also wanted to know from the records of the 2001 census the same data in respect of all of them along with Robert Vadra, a resident of 35 Lodi Estate, New Delhi.
“The CPIO of the Census Directorate in his reply dated 7 February 2006, declined to provide the information on the plea that “as per Census Act - 1948, the information collected through Census Schedules are not public information”. Not satisfied with this reply, Mr Wadhwa wrote back to inform the official that Section 22 of the RTI Act has virtually made redundant the applications of the concerned provisions of the Census Act since the former clearly states: “The provisions of this Act shall have effect notwithstanding anything inconsistent therewith contained in the Official Secrets Act, 1923 and any other law for the time being in force, etc”.
However, the CPIO reiterated his earlier plea and declined to revise his decision. Mr Wadhwa went to the next appellate authority, the Additional Registrar General of the Directorate of Census Operations on 5 April 2006. In his appeal Mr Wadhwa pointed out that Section 8(1) of the RTI Act referred to by the CPIO for justifying his refusal was not applicable in the present context since the information sought for had definite relationship to public interest. He further contended that whereas there was an orchestrated effort to project Sonia Gandhi as a devout Hindu widow, an effort to which eminent persons like Khushwant Singh, Natwar Singh and Rashid Kidwai had lent their support, the common people at large did not know anything about her religious identity or that of her family members. ...
“... ...On 28 December 2006, Mr AN Tiwari, Information Commissioner, rejected the appeal and remarked: “If the provisions of Census Act, 1948, are read together with the Provisions of Section 8(1)(e) and Section 8(1)(j) of RTI Act, it has to be held that the Appellate Authority had correctly concluded the information as requested by the appellant could not be disclosed to him”.

Ghost writer
I am *hoping* Modi wins.
The indian voter is fickle and last minute changes can and have made him dither.
The media knows this and has stepped up its assault sending its storm troopers to gujarat to demonise Modi.

That was why the NDA, despite an overall solid track record (solid not w.r.t what they could have done but w.r.t other recent governments) got crushed in 2004.

The people now regret this move (what with the SS-BJP winning in Mumbai, Delhi, and sundry other places), but the damage has been done -- good policies (Golden Quad, electricity reforms) have been unwound and bad ones put in their place.

So I'd keep my fingers crossed.
