the nytimes thought well of the book. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/14/books/14grim.html?8bu=&emc=bu&pagewanted=all

but the economist was rather critical. they seemed to think that hirsi ali's minor transgressions should prevent us from appreciating her words. in other words, shoot the messenger.

i tend to think of her as a courageous person who spoke up. someone who suffered from genital mutilation and thus had her femininity destroyed deserves our sympathetic attention at the very least as a victim.

A great article by KPS Gill on the crisis in Indian agriculture. He is right that the 10% growth rate has not touched everyone and people in India are starving.

Regeneration of rural based economy through agricultural growth is an absolute must

Look at Somini types in this way

If the mullahs win with Somini types backing them she will be in a burkha reproducing away at full speed (isnt that a delicious thought)

If the mullahs lose the Somini types would have completely lost all their credibility - they would be completely sidelined.

Thus it is a Win Win situation - although I must say that there is some genetic defect in that er.. ethnic group-cough cough
