bill joy, a founder of sun microsystems, once wrote a very good essay on the dangers from self-replicating things, and he was talking about genetically engineered organisms.
this report, although it talks about new approaches to energy, is awfully close to bringing about the kind of bio-catastrophe bill joy was worried about.
