India Prasthutha Blog: Is India overpopulated?

dec 27

from the prasthuta folks at the IISC, bangalore. interesting. i have seen and used similar data before. china + tibet's arable land is only 15% of the total, which is why the chinese always had to look for 'lebensraum' while indians, blessed with good land, never had to.

this is also why i think india's competitive advantage is in agriculture and the biological technologies that are related to agriculture, like fermentation and tissue culture. ayurveda is an example.

in the new era of biotechnology, india will be a winner because of its agricultural heritage and intellectual property. exactly as in the era of computing, india has become a winner becaus of its mathematical and intellectual heritage.

Is India overpopulated?

"It is clear there are some countries doing much
better than India despite their high density
population. They are not starving despite their low
percentage in arable land (shown in the table). They
are finding success by making good use of advanced
technologies".

Re. starvation:
I had been under the impression
that India HAS sufficient food
production to feed its entire
population, or at least, in some
years, has had enough and more than
enough.
Please correct me if I am wrong,
and if you have data.
Anyone with data related to food
production in India ? I will look
for data too...

Re. space/land in India:
I think burial grounds take up too
much space. Is it fair to all tha
generously give space to the dead,
when so many living have no place
to live ?

Is God really happy with this
arrangement ? Why are so many
people allowing this to happen in
the name of religion/God ?

Even Jesus has said of the body:
Dust thou Art and to Dust
Returneth.

Does it matter whether the process
happens through prolonged decay
and rot under the ground, or
through cremation ?

Cremation, by the way, is a
purifying process. Agni (Fire)
purifies. It returns the 5
elements in the body to nature,
instantly and fully purified.

It does not take space or anything
from anyone.

But if we assume that inking this nuclear deal with US is going to be easy by saying yes to a few requests from them, we are in for a surprise. Its known that we would be made to bend our backs. If the gain had been substantial we should have no concerns in bending. But the gain is going to be a nuclear deal that is not going to help our power sector. And it is further going to hamper the growth of our indigenous nuclear intellectual capital and throw nuclear development into a disarray.
We should have probably stuck a different kind of mutually beneficial deal with the US, that would have better helped us in some other way.
